Hi there - looking for a bit of advice on the following please.

Recently had a raised patio removed from my property (too danderous for small kids) and am now in the process of slabbing the area. The issue is that I am looking to build a small wall using breeze blocks (approx 2" - 3" high) around the edging of the slabs as a small retaining wall as the level area is below the land at the rear of the property.

The idea was to place some soil between it and the external fence so that they were in effect level. Anyone see any issues doing this?

Thanks in advance.

you will require a 225mm thick (twin leaf) wall, to retain 3' of soil.

use a dense concrete block against the soil side and face it up with whatever you like. put ties in the wall too.

weepholes may be useful also.

don't skimp on the foundations.

make the foundation at least 200mm wider than than the wall. this allows a 100mm toe each side.

lay the concrete 7" thick minimum.

use common sense with the depth. once through the 'black stuff' or fertile matter and the ground is undisturbed and solid, then you should be ok.

Perfect sense from Noseall - as is generally the case (can't say always, or he'll believe in his own publicity) ;)
