this door frame was external and is now internal. The cill has a metal lip sticking out 10mm - which looks well bedded into wood. Can this be taken out - easily! Is it just a rectangular bar set in a slot . Thanks

Probably if you drill a hole in the metal near one end, you would be able to lever the bar out with a screwdriver.

If you have a couple of sets of Mole grips, clamp these onto hard onto one end & pull or lever them, you might be lucky. If not, try drilling a hole & levering at one end as suggested. They do come out but you will obviously be left with a slot in the wood! I removed several from the original hardwood sills when we replaced all our windows & doors so I could cut up the wood with my chainsaw.
