Gaps/hole at roofline - advice anyone?

Hi folks,

Here is a picture of the roof line of my house -

As you can see there is a gap between the face board and the roofline. Is this normal, are they there to facilitate air circulation into the roof space, and should I fill the gap in? I'm also concerned about pest infiltration (wasps/small birds etc.)

Any advice appreciated

there should be no gap.

the fascia or barge board as it is known, is cut to shape so that this area is entirely filled.

this detail is known as the barge or fascia box end and deals with the soffit profile, the tile kick and any wall plate protrusions.

yours is the barge tile kick. ;)
