Numpty post re: Intermediate light switch

I think I'm about to be embarrassed...........

On the Wiki 2w switching with an intermediate socket I'm having a blonde moment

.

Here's the diagram:-

So using MK switches with C- L1 and L2 how does the intermediate switch get wired??

Reason I ask is that the diagram makes reference to 2 sets of L1 and L2, which isn't the case with an MK light switch.

Am I having a blonde moment, or what

Have used 3 wire + earth and the 1st and last switches do what they should, it's just this intermediate switch that I'm not too sure of, could someone please offer some help (after taking the p155 for a suitable time

)

If it has com L1 and L2 then it is not an intermediate switch.

An intermediate switch has four terminals. In the absence of any meaningful markings connect one cable to the top pair and the other one to the bottom pair, just like the picture shows. Nothing nasty will happen if you get it wrong. It just won't work.

Ah........

So there is such a thing as an intermediate switch, I didn't appreciate that and my standard supplier doesn't sell them.

Never done / needed a intermediate switch before

Just found some on the net, but they are not MK- do MK do a twin intermediate switch ? One side to act as an intermediate the other straight forward on / off.

They don't do what you are after as a single unit. They do an intermediate switch module for thier grid plus modular range. Unfortunately grid plus stuff is a bit expensive (about £10 for the combination you want from TLC).

You screw the frame to the backbox, clip the modules into the frame and then screw on the cover plate.

Just in case you're interested Chri5, an intermediate switch either passes the two lines straight through or crosses them over when you flip it. Its symbol shows this although it isn't obvious unless you know it already. You can have as many of them in the circuit as you like.

When I first needed one of these I went round loads of suppliers asking for a reversing switch. None of them could help. I even explained in great detail what the switch did internally and what it was for. Still no joy. Finally, an old hand told me to ask for an intermediate switch. I got one straight away!
