Have a problem with a buzzing noise from the pump when system is cold. Is present even when stationary. Disappears after warming up. Car is W reg Almera sport 1.8. Does not affect the operation but is annoying. I suspect the flow control valve in the pump but I believe it is not possible to disamantle same. Any help greatly appreciated.

Isnt it the bearing? and once its running pump warms up and bearing runs a bit free, just to elimnate , anything else, why dont you start car without the pump belt? dont worry if it runs the other stuff as it will start with battery.

I assume you have checked the PAS oil level. Low oil can do this. Otherwise it sounds like new PAS pump required. Has the car done quite high mileage?

Thanks for the various info gents. Been away for a few weeks so apologise for late reply. Fixed it before I went away and you are correct in that it was a low oil level. Only by a couple of mm so very confusing. Alls well that ends well and thanks again for the reply.
