I have a 1.6 Vauxhall Astra automatic in which I had valves cleaned a month ago as the car would conk out before it slowed down to a halt. Now I've got the same problem again and it's going to cost over £250 to have them replaced, which I can ill afford right now.
Can someone tell me where these valves are located and how they can they be cleaned? |

Could you give a bit more information on what valves you mean? |

Apparently it's called the EGR valve if that means anything? |

That doesnt sound right?
What year is it?
I know on other cars, a failing MAF sensor causes these symptoms. |

egr valve sounds very possible for this symptom, on an astra. seems a tad overpriced considering the trade price on the valve from a main dealer is around 36 quid and takes only 10 mins to fit. |

Sounds more like the icv valve is sticking. The idle speed control valve is what stops your engine from stalling when coming to a stop. Find it and clean it out with carb cleaner, it would most likely sort out your problems. |
