Hotpoint WM53 not spinning unless switched off then on
Reply with quote Thanks

Hi wonder if you can help. Our First Ed 1200 WM53 machine gets to the rinse part of the program (selection E on the dial) and stops before going into the spin. Drain/rinse/fill functions all work fine. Looking at other posts this might suggest brushes on the motor, but if we switch the machine off, (and maybe spin the drum by hand) then switch on it goes into fast spin no trouble So but for this interruption the cycle does what it's supposed to. There is a spark jumping/grating type noise from around the front where I know the motor is behind when it gets up speed. Is it still motor brushes?

BTW the motor was replaced with a recon unit about 6 years ago by me after the original fit one died due to bearings after about 2 years but it's been faultless since then and we haven't moved it from it's current position for 5 years plus.

Yes it very much sounds like brushes. It is common on hotpoints that it will go through the wash programme up to the rinse cycle then stop.A good indicator that it is worn brushes.
