Grundfos pump not working, heating only a couple of rads.

Put a post up earlier this week explaining that we had air in the system and pump making gurgling noises like air being pumped through the system - Baxi RS 50 Boiler. Changed pump setting from 2 down to 1 as thought was over pumping..

This appeared to solve the issue and noise could be heard now and again but faint..

However last night pump made a very odd noise - not good in my book (high pitch sqeaking noise) and it appears to not be working at all. Boiler is lighting and we have heat in one or two rads but doesnt seem to be pumping around the house - so looks like pump.

Are there any checks I can do... it is making a very slight humming/gurgle but very very quiet.

Pump is Grundfos selectric 14/50

I would get a screwdriver,open thr front of the pump.round plug which undoes turning anti c/wise ,take it out,get a small screwdriver and see if its spinning,you will feel it if it is,if not turn it manually with a screwdriver

Yes water in the header tank, certainly seems like getting excess air in the system.

Bobbo - when you say remove front of pump - Do you mean unscrew the silver large screw plug in the front?

if the pump is jammed you will find the pump is hotter than the pipes round it (and may be too hot to keep your hand on)

even though the F&E tank has water in it there might be a blockage in the pipe supplying the system (this is very common). If you bleed the highest radiator in the house, does water squirt out forcefully? Is this rad higher or lower than the pump? What colour is the water?

p.s. yes it is the large silver screw in the middle. Very little water should come out - just a drop or two, maybe a slight trickle.

Thanks that appears to have done the trick and its now turning with all radiators getting hot.

Unfortunately, only the immediate problem is solved. If there is air coming into the system to a degree that the pump starts running dry, overflow in the tank and gurgling noises, the cause is still there. If you ignore the underlying problem, you are bound to add a pump replacement on top of other work before too long
