Hi

I've recently had a builder do a bit of work around my house and he commented that i have no earthing system.

Can anyone give me a rough idea how much it costs to have this installed? - (don't really know what it is!)

thanks

Dan.

Are you sure? Get an electrician in and I mean yesterday! If indeed your electricity supplier has not supplied you with an earth then an earth rod can be put in from £150 if all goes well (That doesn't include London rates and is for a first attempt, single rod with around 3m of cable). It can get tricky and expensive but its not worth the risk.

pretty sure yes - builder mentioned not being able to put a new bathroom in for us until the house was earthed. I don't know if the house has some earthing missing (if that's possible!).

House was built circa 1960s.

thanks

Dan.

Not sure what the exact issue is here, unfortunatly the builders comments are not very precise at all :(

If you could take a photograph of the service intake, the metering and the consumer unit and upload it to the likes of imageshack and link us across then we should be able to get a much better idea of what the problem is :)

If he's right that there is no earth then he's quite correct in his refusal, but then you have more pressing things to sort out right now than a new bathroom...

Sadly, yes it is possible.

Not having a supply earth is a Very Bad Thing™.

I took that to mean "not earthed properly.."

lights, bonding etc

needs an electrician to have a look for you
