40mm pipe through 6 inch joist

As post is this ok? It is a new joist in a new loft conversion. Also the shower waste has been vented, what is the purpose of this?

Has the hole been drilled trough or is the joist notched out 40mm deep??

The vent is to allow the waste water to flow away with out air locking and going glug glug glug.

the waste goes over the joist at the mo as the old shower tray is about 100 deep. The replacement tray needs the waste to go into the floor void and going through the joist would give me a good angle of fall.

Raise the tray.

You are not allowed to notch out more than 1/8 of the joist.
