Jointing between paving slabs

Not sure if i have done this correct. Any advice

Bought some sand and cement mix here

to fill in the gaps between paving slabs.

I have read to use about a 3:1 ratio but looking at this its a 5:1.


Whats i did was wet the floor by literally spilling water out of a jug onto the slabs. Only about 6 slabs. Poured the mixture out onto the slabs so each slab had a little pile on and literally brushed it in.

A couple of hours later, it still hasnt set. Is this normal. Its wet looking still so obviously has not dried out.

Im just worried it wont set or will break up after a small knock or something.

That one way to stain all the slabs!

Mortar need water to set, and if this was not mixed in, then it wont set properly.

Normally you would mix this in a bucket or suchlike and then just apply it to the joints - not the slabs.

Another way is to brush the mixed sand/cement in dry, tamp it down, and then lightly dampen the mortar to cause it to set
