Increase Water Pressure

Hi guys just need some help the pressure we have is not strong enough to power upstairs show. I have been talking with plumber who recommends fitting a pump and just wanted to know If anyone has any experince of this and what kind of pump you have used. I would of hoped that pump can be positioned outside on garage roof, we are trying to increase pressure of whole house not just showers.

their are many pumps for this but need more info.
