I am about to have a Vaillant EcoTec Plus 831 combi boiler fitted as a replacement for an ageing Saunier Duval. The heating output is 8.7 - 24.0kW. I live in a 4 bedroom detached property built around 1915. The house is of standard construction, has high ceilings and double glazing - no cavity wall insulation though and it can be cold at times. The system has 13 radiators, very few of which are of modern construction but they are all sound. We only have one bathroom.

My question is; is this boiler man enough to heat my house? The current boiler never cycles off when the heating is on and I assume from that that it is underpowered - I don't want to end up with a new boiler that is also under-powered.

HI

it wll match your requirement.
ECOTEC 831 can easily run upto 15 (or more)standard size rads.

I haven't seen your house or conducted a heat loss assessment. So I'm not going to give you an assurance that the ecoTEC 831 has enough output for your heating requirements.

However, if you go to www.sedbuk.com and go to their whole house heating calculator, it will give a reasonably accurate kW rating. Information you will need is: Length and Width of house, no of floors, no of separate ext walls, type of windows, and roof insulation.

Good heating design is all about facts rather than guesses.

Any good installer will conduct an assessment of the heating req and measure the incoming cold water flowrate and pressure. If they don't, they are a chancer, and get another quote.

Don't expect the most diligent to be the cheapest.

An 831 will definately be a good choice I have installed many of these with no hassle at all. Make sure the system is properly flushed b4 new boiler fitted though and would reccommend a Magnaclean too.
