Can anyone help me with a couple of questions?

I'm trying to find out what this plant is, and the best way to get rid. I have two of these, one in each corner of the garden. I have trimmed one right down as far as possible, but it is still a huge mass. I think they may be too much for a weed killer

They are taking so much water from the ground, the grass is struggling to grow!

any help much appreciated

looks like grass to me. bear in mind there are various types of grass. try weed killer, or dig it out

commonly referred to as pampas grass. If you want to completeley remove it then chop it down to ground level (wear gloves the leaves have sharp edges), and then dig out the soft roots. It doesnt go down very deep and is fairly easy to get out.

Mix SBK with paraffin, and sprinkle on it, that will get rid of it.
