We have a bathroom next to our bedroom, separated by a non-supporting partition wall, and we would like to put a doorway in. There are no sockets in the way and there is enough wall to put a full size doorway in.

Are there any particular techniques for doing this please?

Thanks.

Is it a brick/block wall or a stud partition? If block, are you absolutely sure it's not structural, have you looked in the loft?

It's just a wooden frame, and yes, we are sure it's not structural.

To cut an opening in a stud partition is much easier than blocks but you need to establish where the existing timber studs are before you start hacking away the plasterboard with a saw. If the exact position of the door is flexible, I would position the new opening against one of the existing studs (usually at 600 centres) to reduce the amount new support timber work you will need to provide. Basically decide where you want the door, add the width of the new door & door liner (you can but them ready made) together, mark the size of the new door opening & cut it out with a rip saw. You will need to cut away the sole plate & provide new timber studs (or at least one), a header rail & either cut back or fit new intermediate timber supports (noggins) against the new studs before you can fit a new lining & the door. This will inevitably involve cutting away some of the plasterboard around the new opening to gain access.

Here’s a link to help you understand how a stud wall is (should!) be constructed;

That's great, thank you. I hadn't considered using an existing stud.
