My boiler has decided to give up. It is a Britony Combi SE and there are 2 x LED lights, 40 and 80, flashing indicating that there is not enough pressure in the system.

I have increased the pressure manually, pressed reset and tried again, even turning it off for 1 hour.

I have a feeling there is a problem with the ignition as I have a pressure of over 2 bar and it still doesn't want to work.

Has anyone else experienced this or know how to get this resolved?

Regards

Hi,

I have the SE80 and have had to ask a few questions on hear whenever things break - which they do. Too often.

If 40 + 80 indicates low system pressure then it is no suprise the boiler wont fire up. If you have 2 bar pressure cold in the system it is plenty (should only be 0.8 bar for the minimum pressure).

The pressure sensor on the SE80/100 model is on the right hand side pump to heat exchanger pipe (directly above the pump). Its a simple switch that triggers when the water pressure in the central heating system reaches 0.8 bar. I would first check that the two spade connectors on the switch are connected firmly, and also check all connectors are firmly attached at the pcb (make sure the power to the boiler is off first as there is mains voltage on some parts of the pcb! Just switching the boiler off on the main controls isn't good enough as the power will still be on). If this is all OK then I would guess the pressure sensor is no longer working - you could test with a multimeter if you have one. You'll need to completely drain down the central heating system to remove it if you need to.

The parts diagram/list is available on the chaffoteaux website which I found helpful in understanding what I was looking at. Other then a rubbish boiler that is.

Good luck!

You can test to confirm the pressure switch is not activated by connecting the two connections together and see if boiler fires.

Its quite likely that the switch is actually quite OK but the inlet pipe to either the switch oR from the boiler TO the switch is blocked. A quick poke on each will be likely to cure it at no extra cost.

They are very reliable boilers on a clinically clean system.
