I seems that I get vibrating / noisy pipes when the storage tank in the loft is filling up. It only seem to happen if only a small amount of water is drawn. For example it is OK if I run a bath but happens if I draw a little water in the kitchen. Could the ball valve assembly be at fault. Please any advice.

it could be your valve which is faulty! but more likely it's some muck sat on a seating of the orifice. or it could be an unsecured pipe on the cold main vibrating. Water hammer can be a pain in the a@se to pin point. start at the top and work down. turn the main off, strip the body of the ball valve and rinse the orifice. (usually white piece of plastic which is cone shaped!)
hope this helps
