Hi

i have replaced a 2 way switch and have ecountered the following problem

the light works from each switch but wont turn off from the other switch

therefore, if you turn it on you have to turn off by the same switch, when trying to turn off by the other swicth there is a slight flicker of the light but it remains on

any ideas ?

also the switch states l1 / l2/ / l3

is this the same as l1 / l2 / com ?

Probably!
Did you take a note of which wire came from where on the old switch?

Yep, so on the new switch you need to take the wire out of com and put it in L2
The wire from L1 goes into com
The wire from L2 goes into L1
Might be a good idea to label them before taking them out.

Was the com on the old switch.

You need to move your wires from
L3 to L1
L1 to L2
L2 to L3
To make it right

And yet another example of a mistake that would not be made by anyone who had a basic understanding of circuits and what switches do, and who owned the necessary basic tools....

but there is no com, its l3

i will take a look in the morning at both switches and let you know what i have and where, thanks for your help so far

Oh right, you're going the opposite way
So you need to transpose the wires:
L3 to L1
L1 to L2
L2 to L3
