hi all

ive been working on my garden not much of a DIYer but im having ago

problem am having is the step leading from my house to the garden.

the step i have wobbles and to be honest it needs work doing on it

another problem is it a Concrete slab type step sticks out a mile
and i would like to have my decking kit flush along this wall and this step prevents this

so it must go

today i pulled out the step slab (it wasnt hard at all ) for a look

i found when i removed the step i can see right into the wall caverty
both sides

i would like to build a new Concrete step

would i shove timber in the wall caverty and fill up with Concrete ? lol

i neeed some advice b4 i cock it up lol

Hi lee,

a picture would be good if you could post one up so we can see more clearly.

But do not place timber in the holes and then cement it up, over time the timber will shrink and rot and the cement will fall out, depending on the size of the holes it would be best to use brick where possible, cement these in and point up the area in question!

Yes, Get the camera out and start snapping Lee.
B4 U Cock it up

some pics, i didn't take the step right off for the fear of not getting it back on

step must have been fitted then pavment slabs then cement between the
slabs and the step

Hi, Lee,
That looks a bit of a mess.
can you get it out far enough to spin the front off the step with a grinder, so that when put back it will fit flush?

i don't have a grinder myself but i might be able to get hold of one

that step must be about 5 inch thick will a grinder cut that deep ?

Hi, Lee,
You probably won't cut right through, but it is unlikely to have any rebar in, so when you have cut as deep as you can, a bolster in the cut and a few light taps along it's length should do it.
bear in mind that cutting is potentially dangerous and should be approached with caution if you are not experienced.
wear all the appropriate safety gear.

thanks chessspy took you advice and im going to cut the step :D

just got a hold of a big grinder for the weekend from a friend
so i will cut it tomorrow

OK, Lee, take care.
don't forget, goggles, Mask, gloves.
and safe working practice, (get the Mrs to do it instead)
;)
