Gas Hob Ignition Sparking Automatically

Hi - the ignition sparkers on our AEG gas hob have this evening started going automatically (it is slowing now though). Some water may have been spilt into the ignition button - can anyone confirm that this is the likely cause - a temporary short?

cookers are not "my thing" but i should say wait untill it dries

By the time you read this it will probably have stopped! Yes I can confirm that if water leaks into the switch, it will cause the ignitor to spark repeatedly until the water evaporates. Happened to us a couple of times.
