Hi, I've just finishing a loft conversion and need to render the new wooden gable end. I'm getting conflicting takes on what is correct.

It's currently wrapped in protect vp400. I've been told to batten this vertically ,use building paper, then expanded metal mesh and then render. Doesn't this leave voids behind / between the battens which could crack if you needed to put a ladder against them?

Also been told not to bother with the battens and just go with the expanded metal straight against the vapour paper and render .

Help PLEASE!

thanks
Kev

different plasterers say different things some say battens some say don't bother.
Personally i have allways used 10 mm battens, you won't have voids as the render is pushed all the way through to give a solid coat.
