I have a Celsius thermostat on one of my central hearing radiators. The lugs which hold the screw-down collar have disintegrated with heat over the years. I want to replace the thermostat only but everything on sale in the shops has a collar with a finer thread than the existing one. I could replace the pipe connecting the radiator to the water supply which a thermostat sits on but all the books say I must first drain the system which I am disinclined to do. Anyone got any ideas, please?

You don't have many options but to replace the whole valve, if you don't want to drain the system entirely look into creating a vacuum.

I would explain right now but I got to go to work, but there have been previous posts on this, just search the forum.
