dot and dab and door linings

Hello all

I recently fit some door linings to some internal block walls. The door linings are 130mm wide and the blocks are 95mm wide. 12.5mm plasterboard was then dot and dabbed to the walls. Allowing for the glue you barely have any room left for a skim coat of plaster (2.5mm maximum if the walls were perfectly plumb). Being that the walls were up to an inch out of plumb we had no chance of fitting plasterboard either side of the lining. Also the electricians had to chase in the plug and switch casings which are 30mm wide, and cables make things even worse. We got around the problems with hardwalling and what not, but there's got to be a better solution. What do you guys do? can you get wider door linings? do you use thinner plasterboard? plant on the door linings?

there are 146mm (5 3/4") casings sold as standard.

Where do you get them from, my boss said they don't have any bigger than 130mm in bradfords, jewsons and southern timber, although he is a bit of a bull s@*^%$*, especially when he's made a mistake lol.
