you can buy all in ballast which would be easier.

For a floor slab 3m x 3m x 120mm this is what you need

14 bags of 25 kg cement
1.9 tonnes of ballast

or

648 kg of sharp sand
1296 kg of aggregate
14 bags of 25 kg cement

Noseall, We must have posted at the same time mate.. :)

thanks guys
i think if i order 2 tonne of chippins 1 tonne sand and 15 cement i should have more than enough.
any leftovers wont be wasted as i need to render a few walls too.

the sand (sharp sand) that you would be mixing with the gravel to make concrete is not suitable for rendering, at all.

not on your nellie.

never.

nada.

Sorry to butt in your thread here

Hi noseall

Just seen your comment about using sharp sand for rendering. I've recently used sharp sand for a pond build, its curing at the moment and I'll be applying g4 to it soon.

Is it a problem that I've used sharp sand?

cheers

sharp sand can be worked to a degree.

it's just that there is almost zero 'fat' and it does not lend itself well to bricklaying, rendering etc.

it will be fine in a pond and could be worked up the sides if needs be.

it can be worked quite smooth too. after all it is used for floor screeding! ;)

Thanks for the info !

Yes, it was quite good to work with, some did slide off, but most of it stuck well to the walls
