I want to check my walls for damp, someone I know has a protimeter mini
which he uses for wood. He said that a lot of people use them for walls as well and that I am welcome to use it. The only thing is what readings should I expect from this tester when I use it on walls, the scale goes up to 90%, can anyone tell me the average for walls please.

Thanks

The readings are totally irrelevant unless you know how to interpret them in context

You can have a 90% reading but no damp problem

If you have a damp problem in the wall you will most likely be able to see it. A protimeter may assist in determining a possible cause, but it will be based on differential readings from various parts of the wall rather than the actual readings themselves.

Start the meter off on a known dry internal wall. This should give you a reading you can use as your norm.

Then use it on your external walls, you should get higher readings . If you get excessive higher readings you should try and trace why.
