I am installing ducting for my cookerhood and would like to know the best way for making the hole for the vent outlet.
Also what is the correct way of sealing the vent so no water enters the wall cavity.
I have heard its best to use rigid ducting is this true?

we usually stitch drill the holes and fix a short length of 110mm plastic underground drain pipe through both leaves of masonry.

What kind of sealant would you use around the drain pipe edges for a water proof seal?

stixall or sticks like s**t.

Assuming that a nice neat hole will be made, if it's raggy and gappy use expanding foam, then once it's set hard cut back a few inches and mortar into the hole around the pipe. You then attach a exterior vent to the wall outside, and make sure a one way backdraught flap is fitted at some point along the ducting.
