Extending ledge board beyond the edge of the house

I was wondering what might be the best approach for this - In my plans the deck (and therefore ledger) extends beyond the side of the house by approximately 6 feet.

I intend to support the excess by a couple of concreted-in posts.
Is this the best way, or might I be better off creating an entirely free-standing deck?
