Fire door handle trouble-shoot! help!

JJB Sports doorhandle to their stock room has a problem they've asked me to fix.

Situation:

Door handle works fine until you pull on the door handle before you push it down to open.
The mechanism Jams.
I believe it is a 'Briton' mechanism, with a thumb lock.

Any advise please.

find out for sure what the mechanism is

fire door locking handles can be amazingly expensive, if it is a panic bolt and latch mechanism with a locking outdoor handle, but they are very sturdy.

take metal files with you as well as chisels as it might just be binding or the door might have sagged.

I will be surprised if you can't work out what's wrong when you look at it.

None of us can see it from here.

post a photo of the mechasim if you can't identify the problem.
