hello,

45' duo pitched roof with flush eaves, rafters 150x50 @450cts, covered in slate with sarking flet underlay.

I would be grateful if anybody could point me in the right direction in terms of extending the eaves to project further away from the walls. I understand that i would need to strip back the first few courses of tiles, felt to expose the rafters, ut am unsure of correct jointing and load bearing capacities of the extensions to the rafters.

Is anyone aware of any guidance on this? i.e. Trada, bs or BRE?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

if you are only looking to extend the rafter ends to make a standard 9" soffit overhang then all you would need to do is add say 1000mm lengths spiked to the existing, extending them past the ends of the existing rafters to suit.

you will have to birdsmouth over the plate but this is no great shakes.

the soffit cradling could be added to the rafter ends.

thanks for this, when you say spike, how do you mean, what would be the exact way to join the new after extensions to the original.

If you extend in "tile lengths" then you won't have to re-do all the rows of tiles to make them look even. But it may also require altering the fascia depth to keep everything looking correct
