ballvalve in attic is dripping and annoying, so i am going to change it tomorrow - get a replacement from wickes.

one q-are the threads standard size? i mean the thread which joins to the tap connector from the rising main-if not, is altering pipework necessary?

straight change. the only thing that may need changing is the fibre washer in the tap connector.
otherwise leave the threaded part and split the ball valve at the nut and change, without changing the thread.

thanks mate - i do as you say and just try and change the nut/valve from inside the cistern if it will let me!! otherwise, i will get a new pack of fibre washers (1/2" size correct i believe)?

could i even go for a equilibrium type ballvalve valve for a quieter operation? or do these not come with a high pressure seating?
