Hi,

We are doing as much as possible refurb of a back room of our lower ground floor flat, and need to break up and replace the screed (to put underfloor heating in) - what's the best way to break up screed - a sledge hammer?

Apols for the novice question!

I "wouldn't" use a sledge hammer to break up a floor screed, especially if you plan to lay a new screed...You'll damage or smash up the concrete underneath... If it was me, I'd use a small kango hammer with a spade bit, and get in underneath the screed itself....It should break away into pieces and lift up no bother, without causing any damage..

Roughcaster.

Thanks, exactly the kind of advice I was looking for!
