Hi

I sucessfully changed the barrel lock in my kitchen upvc door, works fine.

The front door is giving me a big headache. Barrel is secrurely fitted. If the door is open i can lift the handle to the top and all 3 latches from the door come out.

But when i close the door the handle will not lift to the top to secure the door in place.

ANyone got any suggestions?

Local locksmith wants 45 pounds :(

Something in the frame, where the latches latch on it perhaps?
are they all still in proper alignment?

Definately your frame keeps that are not alligned with the mechanism. Best to take them all off, and then replace one-by-one until you find the one that is binding - then adjust its position to fit. You may also be able to see the marks on the keep where the mechanism has been rubbing.

See how long this takes you (how much is your time worth), and how peed of you'll get with it, and then weigh this up against the £45 the locksmith would have charged to sort it out for you.

and bare in mind if you dont do it properly and it still binds, wears the mechanism out quickly,it fails, you get locked out and a bill for £130+ for getting you in and a new mechanism, give it a bash as handyhands described if you want.id guess the door needs adjustment on the hinge side but £45 isnt that much really

loosen the screws on the metail things that receive the 3 hooks and push the receivers as hard as you can towards the inside of the door apeture and re tighten.-I guess they get moved back over time with the door closing
