Double glazing and noise

Hi,

We just had our windows replaced with new aluminium double glazing which also have laminated glass, but the noise in the front rooms is now worse!! (we live on a very busy road). The DG company came back to double check but could not find anything wrong...

Help please!!! What could have gone wrong and what can we do to sort it?

If the new windows allow more noise through, the most likely cause is failure to seal around the outside of the frames.

You need also to check that all the windows are closing correctly.

Unless you made measurements of the sound level in the room at typically busy times, you may have a hard time convincing the fitters that the problem is now worse.

Hope you can get this sorted out.

Have the fitters glued plastic strips round the window frames to disguise the fact that they are not fitted correctly?
Does the contract state that you are responsible for making good?
Are the windows and frames the right size?
Park your car outside and sit inside to record the noise level of passing traffic with the windows closed.
Do the same indoors, compare.
The most effective double glazing for sound insulation has different thicknesses of glass that each muffle a different sound frequency.

Did you have timber windows before but with secondary glazing?
