Smoking chimney

I noticed smoke coming out of the side of my chimney, does this mean it will need rebuilding or will it just need repointing.
(I appreciate I really need to get it checked professionally, just looking for opinions)

with the onset of winter it would prob be best to go for a rebuild, as it sounds like it has reached the end of its life. what is the overall condition of it ? you might be able to get it rendered which is a cheaper option if it is not to bad.

Viewed from the ground, (through binoculars) it looks ok, but the pointing does look shot. The house is a hundred years old, so I don't know if it's ever been repointed.
