Can anyone please advise me on the following?

A few days ago, I noticed that the ball valve in the cold tank in the roof had started making a loud rushing noise when refilling the tank. It turned out that water was spraying out of the top of it and hitting the plastic lid of the tank - hence the new noise.

Perhaps the cold weather has caused the plastic to become brittle and break? Has anyone else experienced this before?

I assume the only solution is to replace the ball valve - unless anyone has any other suggestions or advice please?

TIA

V

PS In case it's relevant, ball valve started making loud vibrating noises several months ago but I fixed this (thanks to seeing posts for other people here) by fixing the nearby pipes more securely.

Usually a plastic spray bar clips on to top , more than likely its popped off . Have a look inside tank if so pop back on if not cant suggest anything other than replace old for new .
