we prefer our roofer to use aluminum paint but some b.c.o.'s insist on chippings.

Mineral is a layer of waterproofing, paint is a solar reflective and needs re application every 3-5 years on average.
Its also, along with chippings a very old solution that has been overtaken by mineral faced felts.
