I want to move a door opening into my living room. The wall is loadbearing and I would like to know whether I would need to prop the wall prior to fitting the lintel. I'm not able to confirm the width of the door at the moment becuase i'm at work, but would guess it would be about 32".

Thanks

it will depend upon the way in which the wall was built and the load above.

there have been many times when a doorway sized opening has been removed without propping and without any problems whatsoever.

that said, a standard door opening will need at least a 1.2m swathe of bricks removing as to accommodate the lintel.

you must judge each job independently. proximity to other openings and weaknesses with have a determining influence. sometimes it is easier to bash out the opening, insert the lintels and repair above. other times, such as when specific load carrying beams or joists are directly above the opening, then acros will be a wise choice.

common sense and a keen eye, me thinks.

Prop the ceiling joists, not the wall.

And if you know what to do, and will be doing it right, then don't bother with building control

I think the reason the OP asked the question in the first place answers that one.

2 acrows and 2 strongboys are all you need.
