Dear All,

I have constructed some storm shutters to cover some french doors leading from my flat to a roof terrace to both protect the glass windows from storms and keep the heat in/cold out of the flat.

I am looking for some hinges that will provide me with a 1 1/2" offset so I can open up the shutters to be flush with the wall. I will be mounting the shutters onto brickwork. This image - //www.diynot.com/network/DaveJones82/albums/1990/7510 - illustrates what I am talking about.

I would be really grateful if anyone would be able to help me with finding such hinges! I have been looking for a couple of weeks, but with no luck at all - can anyone point me in the right direction?

these should do you - you'll need to check that the offset is at least half the door thickness

also 3" stormproof hinges should be available from stock in any decent hardware / ironmongery specialist - the offset will be smaller though i think it might just be 3/4".

you will have fun with the alignment when hanging the shutters as screwing the hinges direct to the brick wall will make it harder to set out and drill the screw holes. also the holes may be close to the edge of the brick. in that case maybe better to fix a batten to the edge of the wall and then the hinges to that.

or if fixing to the brick - i would hang them so that they overlap in the middle, then scribe one against the other and saw/plane down the edge of one to leave a small gap between them.
