Sensors for lighting.

Hello All,
Sorry, I know this isn't 'exactly' DIY. Just curious, (and I suppose it could apply to domestic installations  ).
Could anybody tell me why it may be better to install microwave sensors along an office corridor ?, (the case in question has PIR sensors for the desk areas).
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Ed.

there is a whole variety of reasons

microwave detectors are more sensative if you walk towards or away from them (which is what you do in a coridor) a pir is more sensative if you move from left to right, and right to left, so its not as good for a long "thin" coridor

a microwave will not see the heating coming on

a microwve will not notice a draft if the windows are left open

My secondary school had PIRs and clappers installed. Either would trigger the lighting in the corridors.

They were tuned so the sound of a door opening would set them off. But not all the doors creaked so you'd have to stomp your feet or clap.
