Cowboy electrics

Hello all,

Part way through a house renovation and I keep finding odd electrics round the house from bare live wires on top of cupboards and in stud walls.

Currently I'm trying to trace all the wiring but I keep finding cables twisted and covered in insulation tape rather than proper connectors.

Is this normal or does it sound like a cowboy has been hacking in the house??

no this is not normal

it may be best to replace all the wiring or at the very least get it to the point where you don't thing there are any joins that you haven't inspected/put right

Sounds like my house was when i bought it. Completely rewired now though.

As plugwash said , at least get to a point where you know where every cable is going and where every join is.

some times it is easier / better / quicker to rewire the lot

friend of friend moved into a house, so many things wrong they gave up and ripped it all out and rewired it
