Indesit WIL133 washing machine noise

There is a loud clattering noise coming from the top of the machine when it goes into a fast spin.

It sounds as though the inner ring of the drum is clattering against the outer ring - if that makes any sense ?

The springs holding the drum are fine and the drum isnt moving enough to hit anything else inside the metal casing of the machine.

Any ideas ?

any brown rust makes at the back of the drum .could be a broken drum spider very expensive

Check to make sure the concrete blocks haven't come loose.

Somebody mentioned to me at work today that it may be a bearing gone.

Would this give the noise ?

I checked the concrete blocks and the drum by removing the top lid and nothing is hitting the top of the lid, the concrete blocks are secure and the springs are still in tact and the drum doesnt move.

It sounds like some kind of rubbing noise inside the top of the drum.

Possibly the bearings

If you open the door and try to lift up the inner drum with your fingers and get any movement or rocking with some noise it will almost certainly be the bearings. 'Dont use so much force that you move the whole drum assembly'

If you can take off the lid you can sometimes see water/rust/dirt lines in line with the large pully wheel on the inside of the appliance where water can be flicked as the pully rotates. (indicates the drum seal has gone)

looking at the back (depending on appliance) you can have a panel to remove and sometimes see water/rust marks leaking from the centre of the pully area or from a little hole just below (indicates drum seal has gone)

If the inner drum seems firm when trying to lift it but you suspect the bearings it may be necessary to remove the drive belt (the tension from the belt can sometimes hold the drum firmly) this also allows you to check if it is the motor bearings

Give the drum a spin with the belt off and listen for a grinding noise from the back. (water in bearings causing them to rust)
