I have an old system with an anti-gravity valve just past the CH pump. This valve seems to be a source of trouble in restricting flow - probably has sludge built up above it. The HW side has a separate pump and also a motorised valve near the tank and hence has no AGV - no problems on the HW side.

Is there any modern replacement for the AGV ?

a new anti-gravity valve would do it,
or you could put in a motorised valve and play with the wiring

I'll try a plumbers merchants - didn't realise you could still get them.
Thanks

Well, I finally took the anti-gravity valve out on Sunday and just put in a straight joint in it's place. The circulation is now fantastic - all the radiators red hot with the pump only on 2. My heating has never worked as well as now.
The valve was all gunged up but I can see that even if cleaned it must restrict the flow a lot
