Just had a new fitted Candy Convex fitted oven delivered (2.4kW) - our old fitted oven connected direct to the 30 amp fuse cooker ring and had the same thickness cable (6mm?). However, the new cooker can be used with a 13 amp plug (although it doesn't have one fitted) and has 2.5mm cable. I'm guessing that I can't wire this direct into the junction box the last cooker was attached to the house mains via (which is a drag as I don't have a plug socket within cable reach so I guess I'll have to temporarily use an extension lead or something) but just wanted to confitm this.

i would cahnge the fuse / mcb but yes you can, if you do use an extension lead, make sure it:

can carry 13A

uncoil it

just put a socket in place of the cooker connection unit

the plug fuse will then provide perfectly good protection and you will be able to draw full current from the socket on the cooker connection unit at the same time

Yes sorry - my mistake :)

Anyway after fussing around getting all the difficult bits sorted I've just noticed the door doesn't shut on the oven properly so its got to go back - never buy from major electrical retailers, kids :)
