I need to get my garage flat roof recovered, as it is perished and leaking. What are the alternatives that will hopefully last longer than traditional felt?

Many Thanks

This very subject was done to death recently. Do a search then come back with any queries. ;)

A GRP roof is a single-ply GRP laminate applied in situ over a good quality conditioned plywood or SB3 deck. The roof is finished with pre-formed GRP edge trims and a coat of pigmented topcoat. A survey of GRP buildings by the BRE (Building research Establishment) in 2001* found the condition of several GRP buildings around 25-30 years old to be structurally sound. When GRP is considered for large scale projects in comparison to traditional bituminous roofing materials, it doesn’t compete on cost but its lifespan will always be many times greater. GRP is frequently specified by local authorities for large scale jobs as a cost-effective and permanent solution.

Fibreglass??? brittle after sun exposure, not flexible will crack eventually
EPDM, joints, welds, may lift, not great on corners or vents, chimneys etc
Felt. still only a short term story
Liquid Rubber, better 2000% flexible, no joints, heat, flames. can be used internally too. (used for roofs, tanks, ships)
Polyuerea. Expensive, not many applicators, 100 year warrranty.

Choices choices.........

Three layer felt takes some beating on price-per-years.

And it is proven.

The fact of the matter is though, anything that is fitted correctly and fitted well, is likely to last.

Flat roofs are vulnerable and exposed and people can walk on them, which is not healthy for a flattie.
