Hi,

I am considering replacing / moving doors and windows(installed 1992). mostly like for like size wise apart from.

1 - bricking up backdoor and changing window next to it to french doors.

2 - Bricking up Kitchen / front door and changing hallway window to a door, which was where the original front door used to be, before the kitchen extension was built (1992). there is an internal door from hallway into kitchen.

two related questions

1- do i need planning permission / building regs approval?

2 - do i have to have an external door directly out of the kitchen?

Cheers

Probably not but it depends; phone your LABC to be sure.
building regs approval?
You will need Building Regs & inspection for any new opening or modifying a window opening to a door. New window installation does not need LABC inspection if you use a FENSA registered installer & get a certificate form them, otherwise yes. This will involve a fee & inspection before LABC will (hopefully) issue a compliance certificate if all is well which you will need in the future.
2 - do i have to have an external door directly out of the kitchen?
No; assuming you have not removed a secondary means of escape & you must ensure means of escape is no worse than it was before.
