I have a 2ltr fsi vw touran it has low mileage of 18000 miles,it is coming up for its fourth year service, local dealer has quoted £389 for a cam belt change and £201 on top of that for a service,in short £590 for a service,my questions are,1 is that expensive for a cam belt change? and 2 does it really need it doing being as it has only done 18000 miles in four years ?. Dont mind the £200 for the service that seems reasonsible, but cam belt price was a bit of a shock.

Don't use the main dealer!
Find a decent independant vw specialist and try and make sure they use genuine parts

Just had cam belt done at dealers on my Passat for £330 - they apparently have to take the front of the car apart to get to it and that's where the cost lies.

My experience is that VW will always charge top whack and dress up something like an oil change with a visual check as service. I can get oil change done at local garage for £15 + parts. whereas that would be £65 at VW.

Anyway to cut a long story short, the cambelt on my caddy van (same front as Touran/reg?) apparently needs renewing and they quoted £300 which I think was the best price he could give as I said I had very little work in myself atm. I might call a competitor VW dealer to check thats an ok price.
