Hi all, wondered if anyone can give me an easy fox for this problem? I have a PVC door which works on the usual basis that, when you lock the door, you need to push the door handle upwards and that puts all the locking tabs (is that what they're called?) into place. My problem is that, when I push the door handle upwards, it needs a real thump to get it moving. I'm sure I'm not doing it any good when I thump it so hard! I have no idea where to start in terms of getting access to the mechanism or seeing if I can fix it. Is this more of a job for a specialist than a DIY novice like me (I do own two screwdrivers and a spanner....). If it is a specialist job, if anyone knows someone who lives in Preston, Lancashire and will do a decent job without my needing to mortgage the house, I'd appreciate any contact details! Thanks

If it works fine when the door is opened, then the mechanism isn't in-line with the frame strikes. Either the door needs adjusting, or the frame strikes need removing and re-positioning.

If it's the same when the door is opened, then its a fair chance the mechanism is faulty and needs replacing.

Oddly, i had the very same problem up until last week.
My newly fitted french doors were doing exactly that. My builder firend said the same as HandyHands.
Now i'm not sure if he actually moved the door, by turning the screw thingies under the hinges when he last came round (i certainly didn't see him do it), or if it was me packing out the frames with celotex insulation that helped secure the frame a little tighter. Either way its fixed now.
