FENSA certificate on new door

Hi,

We just had a back door fitted by a FENSA approved installer. We have been sent the bill and piece of paper with a 10 year warranty detailed on it. I was thinking we also get a FENSA certificate as well or do we have to send off for that from the FENSA website?

The company should advise FENSA & not you; FENSA then issue the certificate on behalf of the registered company & this may come either direct or through the company themselves. Sometimes you have to wait a while as many companies only submit their work, say, once a month; make sure you push the company for it though & keep a note of their registration number!

The other “piece of paper” is probably an independent warranty; better to have it than not but some are effectively useless as they only provide cover if the company is actually wound up & not if your in dispute.

Just make sure that the work is logged with the council (which the company should do), and that covers any future inquiries.

I wouldn’t disagree that FENSA are about as much use as a chocolate ashtray but, nevertheless, the OP will need a certificate of compliance to avoid future problems. FENSA (should) come with the milk, a council compliance certificate will cost.

Are they required to log the work if part of the self certification scheme? & they certainly wont if they are on the brink or, in fact, not registered at all! If LABC have no record of the work, it will cause the OP problems & an LABC compliance certificate will be at additional expense.

What i meant was that the paper certificate is irrelevant as the details of the install will be logged with the council by FENSA members, so if at any future stage this needs to be confirmed, then its just a case of a phone call
