Yep, thats me.

Went to a site today (public building) to install some Network points. Old building so I asked to have a look at the asbestos survey. The site manager couldn't produce the survey becasue they were in the process of moving offices  but he assures me that there is no asbestos in the area that i'm working.

Anyway, get to the corridor in question to find some extremely dodgy looking perforated ceiling tiles, the large type difficult to remove because someone had painted over

I decided rather than be a total spoilsport that i'd go and get my respirator from the van, carried on working with respirator on and about 30 mins into job i'm approached by premises manager? (suited type). He asked me if i'd mind not using the respirator because it was concerning some of the staff! I refused and said that I suspected asbestos and that the site manager couldnt produce the asbestos survey. Carried on working and about 5 mins later two site staff came and asked me to leave the site, they proceeded to pick up my tools and walk me to the van.

I contacted the guy who'd booked the job and he told me to consider the work cancelled and not to come back!

Thing is, I need to recover around £400 of cable.

What a **** ing day

If they did not produce the asbestos paperwork, report them to HSE and sue them for the work yu have done.

On the way out, I would have been coughing and spluttering and yelling "It's choking me ...... its burning ...... my throat .... my eyes ... water .... help me"

Also if they have property of yours they have no right to keep it.

I hope that your going to bill them for the wasted time?

And return for your cable.

Sounds like you'd have a field day in a court of law. Make records of who said what, much info as possible.

Like said bill them on the highside for the time and materials.

If thats not paid follow it up with a solicitors letter that can go on to mention their "apparent misunderstandings" of H&S law and how being in court with HSE involved probably wouldn't be a good thing for them.

Dis, I keep telling you, if you insist on wearing the spiderman pyjamas they will escort you off site. Mask is one thiung, Licra skin tight jammies in red and blue is another.

Haha

Its batman i'll have you know

This is on its way to been sorted now, I received a cheque on Friday for the cost of the cable, nothing for wasted time though.

Funny thing is, one of my mates is a competitor, he got asked to go and finish the job, but because i'd already told him of the experience he told them he wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.

i would say theres abit more to it than just being escorted off for following hs

you can't be that bothered or you would of took it further with hs getting involved.

To be honest, i'm not that bothered.

As long as I get paid for my time, then I will be happy.

Couldnt really be bothered trying to take a public org through a small claims court. Surely it would be like sueing myself.

Sometimes I just think its worth learning from experiences, if you lend a guy £20 and he spends the rest of his life avoiding you its probably being worth it if you know what i mean.
