I intend to finish the garden this summer and have decided to terrace it due to a 6ft high slope at the back end of it.

I was going to build a couple of walls until I saw Deefadog's project using 4" half-round logs.....now I'm going to copy him.//www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=123921 except I will be using either chips or bark rather than turf to finish it off.

My plan is to use 4"x4" posts (cemented to at least 2' deep) approx. every metre along an 8-10m run.
Then I would nail the 4" half-rounds to the front of these posts.
Finally I intend to back fill the void with the clay dug out of the postholes , cover with weed membrane and add 4-5" of whatever chips/bark the wife decides she wants.

Questions I have are:

1. Is 2' deep enough to sink the posts (the walls will be no more than 3'" high)?
2. Should I fit some boards behind the posts to take any strain from the backfill and lessen the risk of the half-rounds being pushed out from the posts?
3. Should I fit weed membrane behind the wall to stop anything growing through?

Many thanks in advance for replies to the above questions and any other advice that is forthcoming.
